4 Secrets to Staying Lean During the Holidays!

Our resident blogger Shana fills us in on her tricks to saving herself from ruining her otherwise healthy diet around the holidays.
1.) CHOOSE THE DAY OR DAYS TO TREAT YOURSELF

Let’s face it, when we think of the holidays we literally have lumped ALL of the holidays Including Thanksgiving into the HOLIDAY EATING situation. Realistically speaking it is only comprised of a few days…for some it Iis just 1 day…1 day of enjoying a great meal or party..1 day to forget about your macros and calories and eat until you are satisfied… that being the key word. Don’t eat until you get sick…THAT is not what we are trying to do here. SO, 1 day isn’t going to ruin years of hard work… and all those gainz…but ...weeks will…so choose your days wisely and enjoy your family and your friends!

 

2.) GO TO THE GYM EARLY

Get it in! If you wait until the evening you will not workout! Most holiday get togethers or parties are at night…and they usually start right after work…so try to make it a priority and go early. And lift HEAVY! Deadlifts, squats, presses, these will burn a ton of calories and will help speed your metabolism Going on the elliptical for 20 minutes ain’t gonna cut it, and lying down and stretching doesn’t count! haha

 

3.) EAT BEFORE YOU GO 

Whatever you do, do not STARVE yourself! I see this all too often. If I don’t eat all day then I can enjoy my meal! NO! NO NO! Eat your normal meals and make sure to eat a small meal or snack before you go to your party. This will essential help you avoid stuffing your face with crap. Not that all of your parties will be serving crap food but you don’t want to be in a position where you are having to make bad choices. I like to eat about 4 ounces of protein, maybe 1/3 cup of rice or 3 ounces of sweet potatoes, and about 1 cup of veggies. I always feel so much better and then when I go I can really pick and choose what I am going to enjoy.since I am not starving!!! 4.) BRING YOUR FOOD

Lastly if all else fails BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. I know lame…but sometimes you have to just have a back up.It’s ok, You can BE that person that busts a chicken breast out of their purse or pocket…throw it on the plate and act like it’s part of the party. No one will even know if you don’t make a big deal about it! Don’t let the haters intimidate you! Haha Maybe they have a veggie tray but the protein is smothered in cheese or no veggies but they have protein…just BE PREPARED.

 

And really the best advice I can give is to make sure that once you have enjoyed yourself…wake up and get back on track! STAY consistent and you will soon realize that BALANCE is what will give you life and allow you to enjoy your favorite dessert when it really matters! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!
